Travelling to Montreal for the holiday season (mainly NYE) is an incredible experience shared by thousands of students and young professionals every year. The city comes ALIVE on New Years Eve with its wild nightlife, amazing shopping and overall cool vibe. There are few key things you should know before departing for what many call, Sin City of Canada’s East Coast!

Reserve your New Years Eve Montreal Party tickets online before your leave home – events sell out quickly, especially in the month of December. Try to take care of your NYE party tickets before Christmas.
Pack warm clothes and wear a winter jacket – it never fails; EVERY YEAR we spot a few people leaving nightclubs without a jacket. Montreal weather in a word? COLD. And NYE is no exception. So don’t worry about the extra 5 minutes you might spend checking your coat – it’s better than frostbite!
Don’t forget your passport – U.S. and Canadian Customs and Border crossings have recently updated their requirements. Don’t mess around with this. Bring a passport and at least one other piece of government-issued identification (you’ll need it to get in to nightclubs anyways).
Stop for supplies outside of Montreal – Downtown convenience stores are jam-packed during the holidays so do yourself a favour; stop at a convenience store on the way to your hotel in Montreal if you want to buy drinks or snacks. Use Google Maps to locate a Couche Tard or a convenience store on the way in to the city.
If you arrive on December 30, get the Coors Light Bar Hop bracelet
Go shopping on Saint Catherine Street (corner Peel is where the action is)
Have fun and stay in control. Open bars and late nights are a lot of fun if you know your limits. Don’t ruin your trip by overdoing it.

Party planners primed for revellers

If the thought of organizing a small gathering for New Year's Eve intimidates you, imagine throwing a party for 1,000 young, exuberant people, mostly from Ontario. With an open bar.

This has been the self-inflicted fate of three young Montreal entrepreneurs who have been hosting the Fluid New Year's Eve bash for the past decade.

The satisfaction of watching 1,000 flushed and joyous faces prepare for countdown "makes it all worth it," said Fluid founder Ben Rodier.

Reaping the gains of a bash for 1,000 people paying at least $100 a pop in an industry where profit margins range from 20 to 80 per cent doesn't hurt, either.

Fluid is one of about a dozen parties of similar size held throughout the city.

They're part of a burgeoning market in New Year's Eve parties that is bringing in tens of thousands of revellers to a city renowned for its nightlife.

Breakaway Tours ships about 3,000 high school and university students from Ontario and the Maritimes every new year's to Montreal. For about $220, revellers get bus transport and two nights' hotel, and the tour operator will sell them tickets to the Montreal bash of their choice as well.

Ryan Burke, president of Breakaway Tours, said Montreal is the most popular destination, followed closely by Quebec City. "It's a unique trip to a great city and people have a great time."

Montreal is famous for its diverse authentic cuisine. Montreal’s famous nightlife is as famous as it is because of Montreal restaurants. On New Years weekend especially, the chefs in town take out all the stops.

Any self-respecting visitor to Montreal will be ready to start the day with breakfast at 1PM. Eggspectations is one way to kick things off. Funky décor and great food make this a definite favorite. Chez Cora is also good, right off Ste Catherine and famous for bacon! If your feeling nostalgic Beauties on Mont-royal is a must; the place has been an institution in Montreal since 1942. If the line is too long, there is L'Avenue and Bagle ect. right around the corner.

After a heavy night at Montreal clubs, our favorite lunch is burgers and fries. Mr. Steer is the best! Make sure to get their curly fries. If your in the mood for a sub, check out Dagwoods! With over 20 locations across the island of Montreal, it won’t be hard to find!

If you’re in the mood for a good time, but don’t want to break the bank, try some of Montreal’s bars and pubs. They offer, good drinks, good people and a good time!

St. Denis (between Sherbrooke and St. Catherine) is full of great bars

Montréal-Trudeau is located 25km (15 miles) west of the city centre. It handles around eight million passengers annually on national and international flights.

Airport facilities: Facilities include bureaux de change, ATMs, restaurants, cafés, bars, newsagents, duty-free and other shops and tourist information. A valet parking service is also available. Car hire is provided by Alamo, Avis, Budget and Hertz.

Transport to the city: L’Aérobus airport shuttle service (tel: (514) 931 9002) links Montreal-Trudeau Airport with the Montreal Bus Central Station and the Aérobus Station. From the Aérobus Station, passengers can take the complimentary shuttle service to major downtown hotels. A much slower option is local bus 204, which links the airport to Dorval train station, from where passengers can transfer to commuter trains to reach Downtown or to bus 211 to Lionel-Groulx métro station. Taxis and
limousines are also available.

Approximate flight times to Montreal: from New York is 1 hour 20 minutes; from Toronto is 1 hour 10 minutes and from Boston 1 hour twenty minutes.
